Our Ann Arbor area readers may have heard about the arrest of an Ypsilanti Township man earlier this month. The man has been charged with an assortment of crimes resulting from an alleged sexual assault after which police say he locked a woman in the trunk of a car.The accused, a 38-year-old man, could face hefty penalties if he is convicted on any of the charges. The most serious charges the man faces are two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, charges that carry the potential for a lengthy prison sentence. He has also faces various other assault charges as well as unlawful imprisonment. He is currently being held in the Washtenaw County Jail without bond.Police allege the man physically and sexually assaulted a woman in a home over the course of approximately seven hours. He is said to have then locked the woman in the trunk of a car. However, she was eventually able to escape. According to police, the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and was admitted to the hospital after deputies responded to the scene and arrested the accused. There are many types of serious crimes a person could be charged with, but sexual assault charges are among the most vigorously prosecuted. The investigations by police into these types of allegations are exceedingly thorough and wide-ranging. Facing sexual assault charges can have many long-term consequences even if the accused is found not guilty. Regardless of the circumstances, however, this man is entitled to a strong defense which he will surely need now that he is facing such serious accusations.
