Authorities arrest Michigan man for alleged break-in

By Daniel T. Geherin

On behalf of posted in Felonies on Thursday, August 23, 2012.

Although the investigation is still ongoing, recent reports indicate that Washtenaw County officials have arrested a 20-year-old man from Dexter who may have been involved in multiple incidents. The man, arrested near the 7000 block of Quail Ridge earlier this month, could face a felony charge of burglary. Authorities believe he was one of three men who forced open a homeowner's sliding glass door, entered the home and took a "significant amount" of jewelry.Authorities in the recent arrest of this 20-year-old Dexter man have indicated he is not cooperating with the investigation, but there have been some other incidents in the area which are being mentioned in association with this arrest. In late July, several incidents in Dexter Township resulted in a great deal of property being stolen. On July 27, three separate vehicles were broken into. The next day, another burglary appears to have occurred in which approximately 60 DVDs and video games were allegedly stolen. Three days later, another apparent burglary occurred in which DVDs and video games were again stolen along with some jewelry. To secure a conviction for burglary, prosecutors need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that an individual entered a structure unlawfully with the intent to commit a crime. No concrete allegations have been made that the 20-year-old Dexter man was responsible for the late July incidents, but authorities appear to have at least floated that idea to the media. In situations like this, it is important for the public to remember that the accused is innocent until proven guilty, and there should not be a rush to judgment to make connections that aren't there. If you or a loved one is facing a felony or misdemeanor charge, federal or state drug crime, violent crime, theft offense, white collar crime, juvenile crime, OWI/DUI drunk driving defense case, or a Michigan Secretary of State driver's license restoration, contact us.
