The following are “Case Summaries” of successful cases Geherin Law Group has handled in 2026.  To protect the confidentiality of our clients, names have been changed throughout.

GLG Michigan is dedicated to Personal Service, Personal Options, and Personal Justice to every single client they represent.  Dan Geherin is a former prosecutor and board-certified trial attorney who never backs down from a fight, especially where his clients are unjustly accused or where they are injured by the criminal actions of another.  These case studies are just a few of those examples.

VETERAN WRONGFULLY ACCUSED OF KIDNAPPING HIS GRANDDAUGHTER

Geherin Law Group PLLC started off 2026 by successfully defending a military veteran who was accused of “kidnapping” his own granddaughter.  Paul lived near Saline and had no criminal history whatsoever.  His daughter had some issues, so he helped take care of her young daughter.  In fact, the child lived with him for months and months leading up to the allegation.  When his daughter tried to take her from the home on Christmas Eve, Paul resisted because he was afraid someone in the car was intoxicated and he wanted to protect the child.  A struggle ensued, and Paul was arrested and charged with assault and kidnapping—a charge that could have put him in prison for the rest of his life!  Dan collected witness statements and other exonerating evidence and provided it to the prosecutor, who bravely agreed that this was an unjust accusation and voluntarily dismissed the entire case against him.  While his family dynamics may never be the same, Paul can rest assured that he won’t lose his freedom over simply trying to protect a child.

TRAGIC TRAFFIC ACCIDENT SOMEHOW RESULTS IN CRIMINAL CHARGES

After leaving an intense workout with his trainer in Westland, Bill began driving home to Washtenaw County.  Likely due to dehydration, he began to pass out and lost control of his car, which careened into oncoming traffic and tragically killed a motorcyclist.  Police ruled out distraction, intoxication and intentional conduct.  However, they charged Paul with a Felony that could have put in him prison for 15 years.  Fearful of being locked away from his wife and newborn son, he hired Geherin Law Group PLLC to help protect his freedom, reputation and driver’s license.  Following a hard-fought Preliminary Examination, the District Court Judge agreed with Firm Attorneys Dan Geherin and Brian Montoye that this was nothing more than a tragic accident, and ultimately dismissed the criminal charges.  Although he remains emotionally affected by the life that he accidentally took, Bill will not go to prison or lose his license over what was nothing more than a tragic accident.

JUVENILE CLEARED OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS

Sean is a great young teenager; good grades, involved in sports, loved by his friends and family.  Unfortunately, he began a relationship with a classmate and then broke up with her when she became possessive.  Shortly after, she claimed to school officials and police that he sexually-assaulted her at her home in Chelsea.  Sean vehemently denied the allegations; cooperated with police; and passed both a private and police polygraph examination.  Dan Geherin filed a comprehensive Motion to Dismiss the charges, attaching the exculpatory evidence and attacking the young woman’s credibility and character.  Before the Circuit Court Juvenile Judge could rule on the Motion, the prosecutor voluntarily dismissed the case against Sean.  Undaunted, the complainant then attempted to get a Personal Protection Order against Sean; again, his parents hired GLG to defend the PPO, and we won that battle too. As a result, Sean has no conviction, no record, no PPO, and will undoubtedly go on to do great things in life.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT DEFEATS A FALSE DOMESTIC CHARGE

Ji arrived in Ann Arbor from China in September 2025 to complete his graduate degree at the University of Michigan.  He met a young woman, and they began a relationship.  After breaking up, she accused him of pushing and assaulting her months earlier.  Despite not one piece of physical evidence to corroborate her claim, police issued a warrant for Ji’s arrest.  He contacted Geherin Law Group for help, which began with an immediate court arraignment instead of an arrest.  Dan Geherin fought against the Magistrate’s initial desire to require a cash bond and an ankle monitor, instead securing Ji’s release on his own recognizance.  Dan then piloted the case towards trial, where the prosecutor’s office eventually decided it could not proceed against.  Dan secured a dismissal, and asked the Judge to sign an Order destroying all public records related to his arrest.  This helped JI travel back to China, and to successfully defend against an ICE push to revoke his student visa.  Had he been convicted he would have been deported.

DOCTOR HAS OWI CHARGE DISMISSED

Ali is a licensed physician in Michigan and a world-renowned research scientist and teacher.  He was pulled over by Michigan State Police in his own driveway after returning from a golf outing.  There was very little to justify the traffic stop, and the young trooper was arrogant and rather unprofessional on the videos.  More importantly, the trooper ignored the fact that Ali was diabetic and that some of his “symptoms” were actually due to his medical condition—and not due to drinking alcohol.  After Dan Geherin set the case for a trial and provided documentation related to the diabetes, the prosecutor eventually backed down and offered to dismiss the case in exchange for Ali’s admission to a civil infraction.  Thankfully, this civil infraction had no bearing on his medical or operator’s license and he was able to move on from the arrest largely unscathed.

NURSE WINS CASES BROUGHT BY AN EX-HUSBAND WITH A VENDETTA

Perri is a hardworking nurse and loving mother.  Her ex-husband loves to make her life miserable, lodging constant criminal complaints against her.  Worse, his new girlfriend joined in, making false allegations that Perri was stalking her and destroying her property.  Perri was charged with multiple criminal cases in Washtenaw County.  With Geherin Law Group by her side, Perri passes a polygraph; provides alibi evidence of her innocence; and never backs down despite the threat of serious felony and misdemeanor convictions.  One by one, her cases her dismissed by the prosecutor.  She’s left with absolutely nothing on her record, and her nursing license and career are saved.  More importantly, her ex-husband realizes he cannot bring baseless charges against her anymore without being met with an aggressive defense.

PROFESSIONAL HIT BY A CAR OUTSIDE OF UM BASKETBALL GAME

Mike is one the most likeable people you will ever meet.  Great career; married to a great woman; loves golf, hanging out with friends and family, and watching University of Michigan sports.  Mike attended a basketball game at Crisler Arena with his wife and other relatives.  While walking from the parking lot to the arena, a driver negligently lost control of his vehicle and drove right into Mike, sending him 25 feet into the air.  Mike was lucky to live, but he is a fighter, and fought through months and months of rehabilitation.  The driver was charged with a crime, and Dan helped Mike navigate the criminal justice system as his survivor’s advocate.  Meanwhile, Dan worked with another Firm to make sure that Mike received all of his 1st party insurance benefits, including payment of all of his medical expenses.  Finally, Dan and the team helped Mike recover a substantial settlement from the other driver’s auto insurance company to compensate for his immense pain and suffering.  Although he may never physically be the same, you can bet that Mike will be on the golf course soon, and in the stands watching his favorite teams play.

ACCOUNTANT FOUND NOT GUILTY BY A JURY IN LESS THAN 15 MINUTES

Greg emigrated to the United States when he was a child, working hard to achieve the American Dream.  While in college at EMU, he met his eventual wife, Charlene, and the couple bought a house and had two children.  He became a financial advisor with a thriving practice.  Unfortunately, Charlene developed a significant substance abuse problem and began getting into trouble, leaving the house for days, and even inviting drug dealers to their house.  When Greg threatened divorce, Charlene called 911 and accused him of throwing a candle vase at her head.  Police arrived and arrested Greg when they saw evidence of broken glass on the ground.  In reality, he had only knocked over the candle in anger and never in her direction.  He was ordered to stay out of the house for months while the case moved through the system.  Greg smartly rejected all plea offers, and set his case for Jury Trial.  The young prosecutor fought like hell for a conviction, while board-certified trial attorney Dan Geherin eviscerated Charlene on cross-examination.  The Jury returned a Not Guilty verdict in less than 15 minutes, and the Judge remarked that it was the quickest verdict she had ever seen.

FAMILY DRAMA RESULTS IN UNJUST EMBEZZLEMENT ACCUSATION

Mark is one of several adult children to Verna and Rob, who passed away years ago.  Mark helps his mother with hundreds of chores around the house on a daily basis.  She allows him to use her credit card for home purchases and other expenses.  The siblings find out about this, and accuse Mark of unlawfully “taking” money from their mother.  He is charged with a 20-year maximum felony embezzlement offense and hires Dan and his team to help.  After continuously rejecting plea offers from the prosecutor and setting his case for a contested hearing, Mark and Dan show up ready to battle.  However, the People agree to dismiss the case upon his agreement to reimburse his mother a small portion of the money.  Although the relationship with his siblings is likely broken beyond repair, Mark does not have to worry about being a convicted felon for what amounted to a family financial squabble.

LOCAL ACTIVIST AND PROFESSIONAL HAS CRIMINAL CHARGES THROWN OUT

Andy is a loving father; a professional; an activist and pillar of his community in Ann Arbor.  Unfortunately, his marriage is crumbling, so he hires an attorney to file a divorce action against his wife.  Within days, she accused him of domestic violence.  As a result, he was arrested, banned from his home, and fired from multiple jobs.  Andy hired GLG to help protect his future and clear his name.  While he and Dan Geherin were gearing up for a jury trial, the prosecutor agreed to dismiss the criminal charge outright so long as Andy agreed to abide by a stay-away order from his ex-wife—which he was happy to do.  While he still has a long battle ahead in the family law action, he can rest assured that he has nothing on his criminal record and can begin to restore his tainted reputation.

EX-LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER CLEARED OF CRIMINAL WRONGDOING

Todd is an ex-police officer. One of his past colleagues accused him of sexual misconduct, which he strenuously denied.  His original attorneys advised him not to speak to investigators, which went against everything he believed in (and against common sense).  When he retained Geherin Law Group, they immediately reversed course and provided a statement and other exonerating evidence to investigators.  This helped clear Todd of wrongdoing; without question, he would have been unjustly charged with a crime had he not provided evidence of his innocence.

JUDGE FINDS VETERINARIAN NOT GUILTY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Ryan is a military veteran and successful doctor.  He has two children with a woman whom he never married.  After they broke up, she initiated a family law action against him, which got uglier and uglier as it progressed.  Following an argument in which she would not leave his home, she called police and claimed he pushed her against a wall.  In reality, she had pushed him into the wall, leaving him with visible injuries on his head.  Despite this, police arrested him and charged him with Domestic Violence.  When she failed to appear for Trial, that charge was dismissed.  However, 6 months later, he was arrested again on the same charge when she convinced the prosecutor that she would show up for court.  Dan Geherin set this case for trial, then conducted extensive investigation; prepared vicious cross-examination; and prepared Ryan for testimony.  The no-nonsense Judge saw right through her biased claims and believed Ryan’s version of events.  He acquitted Ryan of the charge, and ordered all records related to the case expunged.  This acquittal helped Ryan’s family law case, in which he was able to fight off her request for sole custody.
